Henn CohortOn Tuesday, Sept 8th, classes officially began at the University of Minnesota.

On that same day, the 2015-16 MSW Child Welfare Hennepin County Cohort began orientation for their child protection and child welfare field placements. The 10 MSW students were welcomed by over 30 Hennepin County Child Protection and Child Welfare Social Workers at a Welcome Lunch and had the opportunity to introduce themselves to staff.

Over the past few weeks, these students have been involved in orientation activities and meetings that have included Hennepin County Health and Human Services Overview training, visits to 3 of the Hennepin County Social Service offices, learning seminars with Child Protection Screening Supervisors, Child Protection Investigation Social Workers, and Child Protection On-Going Social Work Supervisors and Social Workers.

This year, we have 10 IV-E MSW students interning within Hennepin County in the following units:

  • Extended Foster Care (2 students)
  • Child Protection Investigation
  • Child Protection Field
  • ICWA Child Protection Field (2 students)
  • Child Welfare
  • Family Assessment
  • Child Welfare/Children’s Services Policy
  • Foster Care

We are looking forward to another great year at Hennepin!

About the MSW Child Welfare Hennepin County Cohort

CASCW collaborates with Hennepin County Social Services to provide an opportunity for a small group of IV-E MSW students each year to experience child welfare work within Minnesota’s largest county. Students in this cohort experience additional supervision with an onsite University of Minnesota IV-E Field Coordinator and participate in bimonthly onsite and offsite county seminars which provide informal learning opportunities that connect students with a wide variety of social workers working in child protection/child welfare roles.
