As we complete the Girls’ Aggression in Child Welfare blog series we would like to share with you two wonderful videos that Professor Jane Gilgun has created along with this series.

Video 1: Girls Aggression in Child Welfare Caseloads Part 1: Relational & Physical Aggression

Girls’ aggression is a growing concern. This video shows how the development of self-compassion through building relationships is key to girls letting go of aggression and learning how to respond to troubling situations prosocially. This is a second of two videos on girls’ aggression and child welfare practice.

Video 2: Girls’ Aggression in Child Welfare Caseloads Part 2: Compassion Based Responses

In this video, social workers that work with girls and their families discuss two main types of girls’ aggression: relational and physical. These kinds of aggression take place between girls who know each other and are based on fears about worthlessness and beliefs that aggression is the right thing to do when we think others are disrespecting us. We show how compassion and structure are responses that work.
