In this module, we provide participants with an overview of the definitions, causes, and outcomes of youth homelessness, as well as a description of populations most affected. We then highlight findings of a recent study examining educational disengagement patterns (low attendance and high school dropout) of youth experiencing homelessness and/or unstable housing as compared to those of their peers. Our study is based in Minnesota, and is the result of a large collaborative effort across numerous organizations, including YouthLink, the largest drop-in center for youth in Minneapolis. We conclude the module by providing participants with key takeaways from the study and practical strategies to promote youth (and their families’) stability and well-being.
