CASCW has developed a series of fact sheets, which are a helpful way to inform child welfare professionals about a specific topic. They provide relevant information to assist child welfare professionals in understanding an issue, solution, alternatives, or additional opportunities.

Culturally Affirming Practice to Support Prevention: Culture as Strength and Healing

This new fact sheet is brought to you by CASCW and the Promotion and Prevention unit in the Child Safety and Permanency Administration at the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families. It provides an overview of what culturally affirming practice to support prevention can look like, prompts for self reflection, as well as resources to expand culturally affirming knowledge and practice.

In recognition of National Family Well-Being and Child Abuse Prevention Month, CASCW and DCYF are pleased to bring you a new fact sheet which provides an overview of family service navigation and explores current research and practices for professionals engaged in child welfare and family advocacy. Families across Minnesota, particularly those from marginalized communities, often face significant barriers in accessing essential services such as healthcare, education, housing, child care, and social support. These obstacles stem from systemic inequities, fragmented service systems, and a lack of culturally relevant support. Impacts of Neoliberalism on Minnesota Social Workers

Current social work practice is situated in the political-economic context of neoliberalism. Neoliberalism is a political and economic ideology that advocates for free-market capitalism, which became dominant in policy-making from the late 20th century onward. Business managerialism is applied to human-serving organizations, such as social services and nonprofit agencies. As a result of this, what kinds of pressures might workers face? Some central tenants include management pressures of productivity and efficiency, continuous monitoring and redirection, financial incentives/sanctions for productivity, and standardized practice. Under such conditions, professional discretion is challenged.
