CASCW at the Capitol - 2025 Legislative Session Wrap Up

CASCW at the Capitol featuring Child welfare policy updates

The 2025 legislative session began on January 14 and was required to end May 14. Instead, the legislative session concluded with a one-day special session on June 9, where lawmakers passed the final pieces of Minnesota’s $66 billion budget. It was a budget year and while nearly 7,000 bills (6,893 to be exact) were introduced, only 39 bills passed in regular session and 15 bills passed in special session. On Saturday, June 14, Governor Tim Walz signed into law the remaining bills that make up the state’s two-year state budget.

See the CASCW Bill Tracker for more information on child welfare related legislation and below is just a snap shot of some of the activity. (Note: the inclusion of bills in the tracker does not indicate a position for or against a particular policy).
